We are celebrating Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada! So Happy Turkey Weekend!
I love hosting the holiday meals at my place, and 99% of the time I do. However, this weekend, my daughter is hosting it at her place. But she knows what her momma likes and I'm in control of the dessert...so we are all good.
Thanksfully, we only need to drive for 10 minutes to her house. However, I know many of you are traveling longer distances this weekend (and really this time of year). So I'm here to help!
We all know what it's like waiting at the airport or traveling long distances in our vehicles...It's tiresome, sometimes boring and well you get hungry as well!
So how do I stay on track while I travel, while living a LCHF/Ketogenic Lifestyle? I'm so glad you asked :)

The first thing I do is put a little planning into play. If you know me, I tend to procrastinate...just about everything. So when I say plan ahead I really mean it! I have learned the hard way when I procrastinate panning for a road trip or a flight, I will end up sick (or really hangry)
I make snacks that travel well and I can take anywhere. There is nothing worse than when you are driving a long distance and the family stops for a donut, and I have...well nothing to enjoy as well.
I always have a batch of Chocolate Fudge Muffins from Healthful Pursuit frozen and ready to grab at all times! These things are freakin delicious and you will not look for that donut...I promise
Some other options I generally go to are celery sticks filled with cream cheese or almond butter, Babybel Cheese, mini pepperoni slices and boiled eggs (don't forget the salt), and veggies with dip!
Another thing I do before I leave on a flight or drive, is eat. Like going to the grocery store, you NEVER go hungry! A great low carb breakfast to have would be eggs, bacon and a pc of this low carb bread, toasted with real butter! it's cold out? No problem, make a warm bowl of Hemp Heart Porridge! Just add some hemp hearts to your favorite nut milk, sweetner and a tbsp of chia and simmer until thick. Then add a splash of vanilla and a little more nut milk if too thick!
Of course depending on when you are leaving, you could have some avocado mashed on toast, or a full on low carb dinner like these Bacon Cheeseburger Waffles from Ruled Me if you are flying out at night!
Another thing that is great for keeping hunger at bay is a hot beverage! Enjoy a hot coffee with butter, heavy cream or coconut cream (just bring some in a little container) or a hot cup of tea with a little mtc oil added.
The most important thing to remember though, is to believe in yourself. Commit to your success. You are in control of you and your body! When you believe in yourself and want to be healthy, nothing can stop you. And always remember, Rome wasn't built in a day. So if you slip up, or decide you want some of the Thanksgiving Stuffing but keeping everything else low carb....it's OK! Just don't toss in the towel and feast on all the stuff that is not good for your body.
